RMA Meeting: Friday, MAY 9, 2025 10:00 AM;

SPEAKER INTRODUCTION BY: TBA

TOPIC “End of Life & Dying Well”

SpeakerHarold A. Wilkinson, M.D., Ph.D

Death is universal for all life forms, but it has proven to be a complex concept.  The concept of death has been viewed differently in other times, other parts of the world and by different religions. The last decade or so has seen an increased interest in the topic. The greater role of abortion in American life has led to an increased interest in when life begins, while organ transplantation and the technologic ability to prolong dying have led to increased interest in when life ends, how the end of life should be managed and the importance of personal wishes.

What documents relating to the end of your life should you consider? How do they differ and why are they important? What about “death with dignity?” How have philosophers and ethicists viewed this question? What legal actions have been taken, including “Physician Assisted Dying,” in the United State, in other countries, and in Massachusetts?
