TOPIC – “Founding of The Vokes Theatre” BY Prof. Barrett
Prof. Barrett will speak on the history of Beatrice Herford and her founding of The Vokes Theatre in Wayland.
Ms. Herford was a renowned solo performer from the latter part of the 19th century through the early part of the 20th. For her private amusement, she constructed a dollhouse theatre on her estate in Wayland, in time opening the venue up to local amateur performances. The Theatre has been in constant use for more than a hundred years and is currently operated by an entirely volunteer staff (Prof. Barrett is the current President).
Prof. Barrett will also speak on the process of turning the words on the page into a 3-dimensional performance, the interaction of the director, the various designers, the actors, and technicians.
SPEAKER BIO:
PROF. BARRETT holds an M.A. in Theatre from Catholic University and a B.A. in Theatre from Boston College, and comes to Curry after a career as a professional actor in theaters throughout the northeast.
